Amped Up Week 1

For our first-ever academy at Ellicott Mill Middle School, we've just wrapped up an incredible week with our WEngineer Amped Up STEM Academy! Over the course of two action-packed days, our students engaged in a variety of hands-on activities, received valuable lessons, and tackled fun challenges.

On the first day, we introduced our students to the fascinating world of electrical engineering through a creative and artistic activity - Wiggle Bots. Equipped with large Post-Its, markers, and motors, our students ventured into the realms of robotics and artistic expression. Witnessing their innovative ideas come to life through these miniature marvels was truly inspiring. This hands-on activity set the perfect tone for the week ahead.

In the classroom, our students received a comprehensive lesson on motors, batteries, and the essentials of simple circuits. We emphasized the significance of grasping the fundamentals of electricity for budding engineers. Furthermore, our class delved into the world of binary, unlocking the language of computers and machinery.

Moving on to the second day, we kicked things off with a Kahoot quiz, allowing our students to review and test their understanding of the knowledge gained on Day 1. It's always a thrill to see our students enthusiastically engage with technology in this manner.

Day two was a deep dive into the world of logic gates, a fundamental component of digital circuits. We explored the concept of combinational logic and its relationship with binary, and our students delved into the intricacies of flip-flops, the building blocks of sequential logic circuits. The classroom buzzed with excitement as we ventured deeper into the realm of electronics.

As we wrap up this week's activities and lessons, we can't help but look forward to what the next week has in store. See you next week for more thrilling lessons from WEngineer's Amped Up STEM Academy!
