Space Race: Vex VR Challenges

We had several submissions this session for the various VEX VR challenges! But there was one student who went above and beyond! To honor their effort, we would like to give them a prize for their hard work!

Once again, a huge thank you to all the students who participated and submitted awesome projects!

Now, let’s have a quick recap of the challenges:

Challenge 1 was all about introducing VEX to the students by challenging them to draw their initials using block code. This challenge taught students about the functions and methods of using a rover to draw in VEX.

Challenge 1 Submissions:

Challenge 2 took the basics from the first challenge by encouraging the students to navigate their rover through a maze. The maze simulates the unknown terrain on Mars, and the obstacles represent rocks and any uneven surfaces that may impede the rover’s path. The goal was to successfully reach the checkered box without colliding with any of the obstacles or getting lost in the maze.

Challenge 2 Submissions:

The students then attempted to complete Challenge 3. This challenge was the most difficult, requiring students to apply skills from the two previous challenges, with the additional element of the 3rd dimension! Students were challenged to knock down the blocks by creating an algorithm that instructed their vehicle to ram into the massive black blocks. This was the students’ final task in simulating a mars rover.

Throughout this session, students were challenged with progressively more difficult tasks, with each challenge building upon the knowledge of the prior task. It started simply by creating lines, and ended with the difficult task of knocking down objects in three dimensions! We are extremely proud of the work that was completed by the students. We truly appreciate the effort that the students put in!
