Storm Riders Week 2 WEngineer Academy Recap!

Another eventful week comes to a close! Robots, bridges, and cars—artificial intelligence, civil, and mechanical engineering were on full display with our young engineers.

On Tuesday, students were given a limited time frame and a set of materials to build a bridge withstanding various weights. Students applied the concepts of weight distribution, load transfer, and structural integrity to building the sturdiest bridge of all. Congratulations to team Safety Third for winning the bridge-building challenge by building a bridge that held over 11 kg (24.3 lbs)!

In the second session of the week on Thursday, students learned about the science behind cars. They were tasked with building a car of their own using Vex IQ Robotics parts. These marvels of engineering were then put to the test by sending them down a ramp and measuring their final distance. In the end, team Real Trees came out victorious with their car traveling an incredible 32 feet!

We had loads of fun this past week and look forward to even more over the next few sessions!
