Storm Riders Week 3 WEngineer Academy Recap!

Another fantastic week comes to an end with our sixth WEngineer Storm Riders Academy Session!

(Instructors Diego and Austin teaching energy types)

On Tuesday, students started off by reflecting on what they knew energy to be. The students then delved into a variety of renewable energy sources including geothermal energy, wind energy, solar energy, hydro energy, and nuclear energy. After learning about these energy sources, the students participated in a Kahoot challenge where their newfound knowledge of these renewable energy sources was put to the test. Congrats to the team Real Trees for their outstanding performance in the Kahoot challenge. All three members of the team made it onto the pedestal!

On Thursday, students dove into the deep end while learning about the engineering concepts surrounding boats. After discussing the principles behind buoyancy and dams, students participated in an intense boat construction challenge: they were tasked with building boats that would both hold weight and stay afloat even if the boat was damaged by water. Congrats to team Marshmallows for building the most successful boat, which held five pieces of weight and incorporated concepts from many of the previous lessons.

We had loads of fun this past week and look forward to even more during our last three sessions!
