Summer Academy Success

Updated: Jun 19, 2020

We are happy to announce that our first ever WEngineer Summer Academy was an amazing success. We really want to thank all the students for their great attitudes and willingness to learn.

Parents: Just in case your children haven't told you what they learned during the Summer Academy, here's a quick recap:

On the first day, we had an introduction of ourselves and civil engineering. After break, we had a fun activity that combined both environmental engineering and civil engineering.

On the second day, we covered the basics of electrical engineering, and after break, each students got a hands on experience with Arduino and breadboarding.

On the third day, by popular demand, we had a little more fun with breadboards and dove a bit deeper into the topic. After break, we introduced 3D sketching. The students learned about isometric sketching, oblique sketching, and orthographic.

On the fourth day, we spent the beginning of class on another civil engineering challenge: either build the strongest bridge or the tallest tower. The rest of the class time was spent learning Autodesk and 3D computer modeling. Students were able to be creative; some made Captain America's shield, Iron man's helmet, or a layered cake!

On the fifth and final day, again by popular demand, students wanted more time to work with their creation. We walked around and helped them bring their imagination to life! When everyone was finished with their creation, we held a contest, where each student got to vote for their favorite design, and the winning design will be 3D printed by us.

Again, we really would like to thank everyone who helped out and participated in the 2019 WEngineer Summer Academy and hope that everyone had fun and learned something new! A special shout out goes to our volunteers, who made running the camp possible, and to Mr. Gorleski and Dr. Miller! We really couldn't have done this without your help and support!
