WEhicular Motion Week 1 Recap!

Updated: Sep 4, 2023

What a way to start off the academy! This first week was nothing short of a blast! Soaring straight into the field of Aerospace engineering on Monday, students delved into the different types of propulsion methods, aerodynamics, naming and learning a variety of different aircraft, and viewing the lift-off and landing motions of planes. Using this knowledge, they embarked on their first challenge of the academy: constructing paper airplanes. Their planes were put to the test in a race, with The United States of America taking the crown with the farthest distance traveled.

On Wednesday, students explored hydrodynamics and buoyancy. Working in teams, they planned and created a boat with the optimal balance between weight distribution, wind propulsion, and surface area. With limited materials and time, students had to work efficiently in a group to create the fastest boat carrying the most weight. Once again, team The United States of America took the win, with a rapid speed of only 2.7 seconds. However, every team succeeded in collaborating to build practical boats that could move quickly through a body of water using wind.
